“Union Station,” a project that is over a year in the making, is unveiled as part of the Grand Opening of The Crawford Hotel at Union Station. I was commissioned by 9 Nine Dot Arts, with the support of Dana Crawford and Walter Isenberg, to photograph and create artistic abstracts on black and white film of the demolition before the reconstruction of Denver’s Union Station.
Beginning in the spring and finishing in the fall of 2013, I photographed the demolition inside and out of Union Station. I captured the process using my Deardorff 5X7 Field Camera, and a Mamiya and Hasselblad 2 1/4 cameras. What I saw through the lens were the unique and long hidden spaces exposed during the project. As they peeled away layers of Union Station back to its frame, old post and wallpaper were discovered from the building’s earlier days. The images reveal a unique and timeless perspective on this Denver Landmark. I witnessed the history of this magnificent building unfolding. It was a mess!! And in that mess was the past resurfacing.
